But for Hong Kong TV actors Wayne Lai and Michael Tse, each with more than 20 years of showbiz experience under their belt, their attitudes towards stardom are surprisingly different.
While one professes to being overwhelmed by it, the other takes it comfortably in his stride.
After years of playing trusty sidekicks and comedic supporting characters, Lai, 46, finally hit the big time in 2009 with his leading role in the Qing dynasty drama Rosy Business.
He bagged the Best Actor accolade at TVB's annual Anniversary Awards for his convincing performance, a title he also won last year for the melodrama No Regrets.
But Lai, who is married with a teenage son, admitted to The New Paper that he feels drained by his new-found popularity.
In town over the weekend with Tse and actress Shirley Yeung to take part in StarHub TV's Lunar New Year roadshow celebrations, he added that at one point last year, he considered 'retiring'.

'People have been asking me, now that you're so hot and popular, shouldn't you be enjoying life better?' he said with a wry laugh.
Lai attributed his fatigue to the heavy, depressing tone of Rosy Business and No Regrets.
'Filming these hard-hitting dramas took a toll on me,' he said.
'Their immense success also made me think, so, what's next? What should I do to achieve another breakthrough?
'It made me look back at my career, and I realised I haven't stopped and rested all these years...
'I've been filming an average of two to three TV dramas per year, and it's really tiring.'
No Regrets, co-starring Sheren Tang and Evergreen Mak, will premiere over VV Drama (StarHub Ch855) on May 17 at 9pm.
